[Saba Sports News] Former England goalkeeper and Aston Villa legend Nigel Spink has traded the green pitch of the football field for the open road since leaving the sport. The 67-year-old, who represented England in 1983, was called up to the national team a year after his heroic substitute appearance for the injured Jimmy Rimmer in Aston Villa’s 1982 European Cup final victory. That was only Spink’s second appearance for the club, and he kept a clean sheet against Bayern Munich, marking the beginning of his long tenure as Aston Villa’s first-choice goalkeeper. Spink made 460 appearances for Aston Villa, including one outing as an outfield player, and won the European Super Cup and a League Cup before leaving Villa in 1996. Today, Spink and his partner run the S and M courier company, with their business reaching across the entire UK. Talking about his courier business, Spink said: “I enjoy every minute of it. We have some excellent long-term clients, and we are open for any business. We both have had our vans painted in Villa colors; this club is still a favorite for both of us. We work Monday to Friday, which is perfect because, as a footballer, working every weekend and bank holiday for years, I can now spend quality time with my family on weekends.”
