[Saba Sports News] India batter Virat Kohli will miss the first T20I of the three-match series against Afghanistan, scheduled on January 11 in Mohali.
Kohli has taken a one-match break due to personal reasons and did not arrive in Mohali. He will link up with the squad in Indore, where the second T20I will take place on January 14.
“Virat Kohli will miss the first game due to personal reasons. He will be playing from the second and third T20I,” India head coach Rahul Dravid informed on the eve of the series-opener.
Notably, both Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma have come back in the T20I fold after a gap of more than a year. The duo last played a T20I in the World Cup 2022 semi-final following which they shifted their focus to the longer formats of the game.
With the T20I World Cup 2024 approaching, there was a suspense on their returns. However, as things stand now, the two veterans are set to don the Indian jersey in the upcoming ICC event.
