[Saba Sports News] Virat Kohli, renowned as one of cricket’s all-time greats, has garnered a massive following through his exceptional performances in international cricket. In the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne, Kohli’s unforgettable unbeaten innings of 82 off 53 balls against Pakistan became the stuff of legends.
The batting gloves he wore during this innings were auctioned for a remarkable 3.2 lakh at the Chappell Foundation Annual Dinner in Sydney on September 13.
The Chappell Foundation, co-founded by former India coach Greg Chappell and Australian businessman Darshak Mehta, focuses on raising funds to support homeless youth in Australia, offering shelter, care, education, and training to create better prospects for those in need.
Kohli generously donated these iconic gloves after his historic performance at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
At the sixth annual dinner held at the SCG, several former Australian cricketers, including Brett Lee, Michael Bevan, Geoff Lawson, Phil Emery, Greg Dyer, Trevor, and Ian Chappell, were also in attendance.
Kohli’s remarkable partnership with Hardik turned the tide for India in a pivotal Group 2 match of the 2022 T20 World Cup. Pakistan posted 159/8, with Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed scoring half-centuries.
India faced early setbacks, losing three wickets in the powerplay, including Axar Patel, who batted ahead of Hardik Pandya. However, Kohli and Hardik’s outstanding 113-run partnership rescued India from a precarious 31/4.
Although Hardik was dismissed in the last over, Kohli remained unbeaten, leading India to a memorable four-wicket victory against Pakistan.
