[Saba Sports News] Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran confirmed all-rounder Rashid Khan’s unavailability for the T20I series against India, starting on January 11 in Mohali.
Rashid Khan has not played a match since Afghanistan’s campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023 ended. He is recovering from the surgery he underwent for a lower-back injury.
Rashid was ruled out of BBL 2023-24 and SA20 2024 because of the same but he has been picked in the squad for the India T20Is. However, as revealed by Zadran, Rashid is currently recuperating along with the team and will miss the upcoming three matches scheduled versus India.
“He is not totally fit. He is doing his rehab. We will miss him in the series. Without Rashid there are a few players we trust,” Zadran said as quoted in the pre-match presser
With Rashid not available, Afghanistan will rely on Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Naib, Noor Ahmad and Qais Ahmad in the spin department.
“We have many players like Mujeeb who have played a lot of cricket. We have trust in them. We will struggle without Rashid but one should be ready for any kind of situation,” Zadran added.
