[Saba Sports News] Mercedes F1 Team Principal Toto Wolff recently discussed the topic of Red Bull developing its own F1 power unit in a media interview. He believes the probability of Red Bull succeeding is very low, and they will most likely continue to use engines from other major manufacturers. Wolff argues that starting from scratch, even with sufficient resources, it would be very difficult for Red Bull to quickly close the gap in development time and experience compared to their competitors. Although Red Bull gained a deep understanding of power units during their partnership with Honda, and the Honda power unit demonstrated a wider power output range, providing some technical foundation for Red Bull’s in-house engine project. The editor believes that F1 engine development takes time. Even with sufficient resource investment, it is very difficult for Red Bull to quickly make up for the gap in development time and experience compared to competitors. Other engine manufacturers, through years of development and refinement, have already gained significant advantages in engine performance and reliability, which Red Bull will need to spend considerable time catching up to and surpassing.
