[Saba Sports News] After the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, Toto Wolff, the head of Mercedes team, questioned the mandatory two-stop rule experimented by the FIA and called for the introduction of exclusive rules for the Monaco Grand Prix in order to improve the race viewing experience on this legendary track. This year, to break through the one-stop game pattern in the Monaco Grand Prix, the FIA required drivers to complete two pit stops in an attempt to increase overtaking opportunities through strategy changes. However, due to the extremely high difficulty of overtaking on the Monaco track, drivers can still maintain their positions by controlling the pace, resulting in limited effect of the new rule. According to the official F1 data, there were only 4 non-safety car overtakes during the Monaco Grand Prix main race this year, which is the same as last year. During the race, teams such as Red Bull and Williams even used “drafting tactics” to artificially create distance gaps, further exposing the limitations of the new regulations. In response, Wolff bluntly said, “Even with the mandatory two stops, the race is essentially still ‘autopilot’. The outcome of the Monaco race was determined long before the qualifying session.” At the same time, Wolff proposed three specific reform suggestions: first, set a minimum lap speed limit to prevent trailing cars from intentionally slowing down; second, discuss possible modifications to the track layout with the FIA and the Monaco Automobile Club; third, retain the spirit of experimentation and continue exploring innovative solutions.
