[Saba Sports News] Following a disappointing defeat in the one-off Test against Ireland, the Afghanistan cricket team made a remarkable comeback to win the ODI series 2-0. A poignant moment marked the 3rd ODI in Sharjah on March 12, during the ongoing month of Ramadan. Amidst the match, Afghan players paused to break their fast and pray on the field, embodying the month’s spirit of fasting, reflection, and devotion. This year, Ramadan started on the same day as the match.
The highlight was captured as Mohammad Nabi and Hashmatullah Shahidi, along with their teammates, engaged in their religious practices during the game. Despite the brief pause, Afghanistan dominated, winning the match by 117 runs after setting a target of 236/9, propelled by Shahidi’s and Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s pivotal half-centuries. Their bowling attack, led by Nabi’s five-wicket haul, dismantled the Irish lineup, restricting them to 119.
This victory not only highlighted Afghanistan’s cricketing prowess but also showcased the team’s commitment to their faith amidst competitive sports. With the ODI series concluded, the focus now shifts to the upcoming T20I series starting on March 15, where both teams aim to make their mark.
