[Saba Sports News] The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled their 15-member team for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia, crucial for the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25. The team, led by Nigar Sultana Joty with Nahida Akter as vice-captain, aims to enhance their standing and secure direct qualification for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.
Currently positioned seventh, Bangladesh faces a significant challenge against the top-ranked Australians.
The selected squad mixes seasoned players with emerging talent. Fargana Hoque Pinky brings her experience back to the team, alongside consistent performers Murshida Khatun and Sobhana Mostary. The team also welcomes fresh faces like 15-year-old Nishita Akter Nishi and the new addition, Farzana Hoque Lisa, rewarding their strong domestic showings.
Despite the exclusion of former captain Shamima Sultana and all-rounder Lata Mondol, who stand by as reserves, and the absence of Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alam from the seam attack, Bangladesh is optimistic.
They are buoyed by past achievements, including a notable victory over Pakistan in the last World Cup. With no wins against Australia in their history, the team is eager to make a mark in this series, starting with the first ODI on March 21 at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, followed by matches on March 24 and 27, and concluding with a T20I series.
