[Saba Sports News] The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah shared an update on pacer Mohammad Shami’s recovery timeline.
As informed by Shah, Shami, who recently underwent an ankle surgery in London, is now in India. The fast-bowler will miss major tournaments such as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and T20 World Cup 2024, and is likely to return to action in the Bangladesh tour of India, scheduled in September.
For the unversed, Shami was the leading wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023 despite struggling with an ankle injury. He has not played for India since the loss in the final of the tournament.
“Shami’s surgery is done, he is back in India. Shami’s return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh,” Shah said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Shah further delved into details on KL Rahul’s recovery, stating that the latter has started his rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Notably, Rahul experienced pain in his right quadriceps after featuring in the first Test match of the recently-concluded series versus England. Although the NCA declared him 90 percent fit ahead of the third fixture, he complained of issues and went abroad to seek consultation from a specialist. He is expected to be fit for IPL 2024.
“KL Rahul needed an injection, he has started rehab and is at the NCA,” Shah added.
