[Saba Sports News] Following their series against South Africa, India’s cricket team is turning its attention to the T20I format, with a three-match series against Afghanistan scheduled for January 11, 14, and 17. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently named the squads for this series, exciting fans with the inclusion of veteran players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both players last participated in a T20I during the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, which saw India suffer a significant defeat.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra shared his insights on why Kohli and Rohit were absent from T20Is, suggesting the selectors were initially looking in a different direction. However, the duo’s impressive performances in the ODI World Cup, particularly Rohit’s explosive form and Kohli being named player of the tournament, led to their reselection.
Chopra also reflected on India’s approach during the 2022 T20 World Cup, criticizing their defensive play. He pointed out that while other teams were aggressive, India often aimed for a more conservative 36 runs in the first six overs, despite previously stating intentions to score 100 runs in the first 10 overs. This approach, according to Chopra, contributed to India’s underperformance and eventual elimination from the tournament.
