[Saba Sports News] The NBA community was taken aback last week by news of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon requiring 21 stitches on his face and hand due to a severe dog attack. Initially, the details were sparse, but Gordon has recently shared his experience of being bitten by his own Rottweiler on Christmas night.
Speaking to The Denver Post, Gordon admitted feeling a bit embarrassed about the incident but was open to discussing it. He attributed the mishap to having a bit too much eggnog during the festive season, leading to a playful but rough interaction with his dog. The dog, seemingly overexcited, bit Gordon, resulting in injuries to his face and hand. Gordon, who has had the dog since it was six weeks old, acknowledged that his busy NBA schedule limited the time he could devote to training the Rottweiler.
Despite the unfortunate incident, Gordon doesn’t perceive his dog as problematic, describing him as “a good boy” and a “great dog.” He accepts responsibility for the incident, considering it an isolated event. His father, who primarily takes care of the dog, may need to undertake additional training to prevent such reactions in the future.
Regarding his basketball career, the incident initially cast doubt on Gordon’s return to the court. However, these concerns have eased as he aims to play in the upcoming game against the Charlotte Hornets. Gordon, who has previously played with stitches on his hand, resumed practice with his hand still stitched up. He humorously dismissed concerns about the stitches on his face, jokingly remarking that they’re not in a beauty contest.
The Nuggets experienced mixed results in Gordon’s absence, winning against the Memphis Grizzlies but losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Their record stands at 23-11. Despite the Hornets’ recent losing streak, Gordon is keen to return, eager to contribute to his team’s performance with his season averages of 13.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game.
