[Saba Sports News] Shakib al Hasan of Rangpur Riders will miss the remaining first-phase matches of the Bangladesh Premier League in Dhaka, as he departs for Singapore on January 21 for an eye examination.
Riders’ CEO Ishtiaque Sadeque confirmed to Cricbuzz that they hope Shakib will be fit for the Sylhet phase, depending on his eye condition. Sadeque mentioned, “Shakib is heading to Singapore for a check-up, and we’re optimistic about his return for the Sylhet phase, health permitting. However, if he’s unable to play, we’ll rely on our current squad.”
Despite scoring only two runs in their opening match against Fortune Barisal, Shakib impressed with his bowling, taking 2 wickets for 16 runs in four overs. Team captain Nurul Hasan acknowledged Shakib’s ongoing eye issues, which he has been consulting doctors for.
Shakib’s eye problem was first reported during the ICC World Cup, and he had previously sought medical advice in London before returning to Dhaka on January 18.
Rangpur Riders’ upcoming matches include a game against Sylhet Strikers at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on January 23 and the first match of the Sylhet phase against Khulna Tigers at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on January 26.
