[Saba Sports News] CJ McCollum, the guard for the New Orleans Pelicans, delivered an impressive 30-point performance in their 133-100 win over the Sacramento Kings at the Golden 1 Center. Post-game, McCollum shared an interesting backstory: the Kings had once considered drafting him in 2013.
McCollum revealed, “Sacramento was actually planning to draft me. They brought me in for a second workout and told me they’d pick me at seven. But they didn’t, so playing here is always special for me.”
The Kings had McCollum return for a second workout and verbally expressed their intention to draft him with the No. 7 overall pick. However, they ultimately chose Ben McLemore from Kansas, leaving McCollum to be picked at No. 10 by the Portland Trail Blazers.
McCollum’s revelation adds an extra layer of personal triumph when he plays against the Kings, highlighting the contrast between his career and that of McLemore, the player chosen by Sacramento instead.
