[Saba Sports News] During the second Test match between India and England in Visakhapatnam, Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary figure in Indian cricket, had to suddenly leave his commentary role due to the passing of his mother-in-law, Pushpa Mehrotra. Gavaskar, known for his extensive contribution to cricket both on and off the field, flew to Kanpur to join his wife, Marshneil Gavaskar, and her family in mourning. The incident took place on the first day of the Test match, affecting the cricketing community.
Gavaskar, who has played 125 Tests and amassed over 10,000 runs, has also been involved in cricket administration, including a stint as the interim BCCI president, after retiring from international cricket. This isn’t the first time Gavaskar has experienced personal loss during a cricket event; in 2022, he lost his mother, Meena Gavaskar.
Having just returned to commentary for the second Test after covering the first Test in Hyderabad, Gavaskar’s sudden exit serves as a reminder of life’s unforeseen events. The cricket world has extended its condolences to Gavaskar and his family during this difficult period.
Meanwhile, the Test match continues in Visakhapatnam, with India putting up a strong performance against England. By the end of Day 1, India stood at 336 for six, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravichandran Ashwin batting at 179 and five not out, respectively. Jaiswal’s innings, highlighted by 17 fours and five sixes, positions him to aim for a double century as the match progresses into Day 2.
