[Saba Sports News] LeBron James recently opened up on ‘Uninterrupted’ about his first encounter with NBA legend Michael Jordan, describing it as a surreal experience. James expressed his astonishment, likening Jordan to “black Jesus” due to his exceptional talent and iconic status in the basketball world.
James recalled being stunned upon seeing Jordan for the first time, perceiving him as almost otherworldly: “When I met Michael Jordan for the first time, I literally couldn’t believe it was him… He looked like Jesus Christ to me, he was Black Jesus to me.”
This overwhelming reaction is common among fans and athletes when meeting Jordan, whose name carries almost mythic status in sports. Despite Jordan’s prime being over by the time LeBron entered the NBA, the few occasions they shared the court are memorable for James.
One such instance was in 2003, during LeBron’s rookie season and Jordan’s post-retirement phase. At Jordan’s camp in Santa Barbara, a young 18-year-old LeBron, along with other rising stars, was invited by Jordan for a game with NBA legends.
LeBron, teaming up with Jordan, recalls not losing a single game in that session. While there’s no footage of this legendary matchup, the experience was undoubtedly impactful for a young LeBron, likely boosting his confidence early in his career.
