[Saba Sports News] Pascal Siakam, a standout player for the Toronto Raptors, might soon be on the move following a revealing phone call between team president Masai Ujiri and newly acquired guard Immanuel Quickley. Last Saturday, the Raptors secured Quickley from the New York Knicks in a five-player exchange that also involved trading away versatile wing OG Anunoby.
This significant conversation was shared in a recent episode of the Raptors’ “Open Gym” series, where Ujiri is heard discussing the team’s new direction with Quickley. “Just taking this thing to a new phase,” Ujiri said to Quickley. “A new everything with Scottie [Barnes]. It’s an unbelievable fit with you and Scottie.”
Siakam, a key figure in the Raptors’ 2019 championship-winning team, remains the last link to that era, with notable players like Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet, and now Anunoby having departed. Trading Siakam seems to be the next step in ushering in a new phase for the Raptors.
This season, Siakam and Barnes have been co-leading the team in scoring, each averaging 16.2 shot attempts per game. Siakam’s departure would likely position Barnes as the Raptors’ undisputed primary scorer. Despite interest from several playoff-contending teams, Siakam’s contract could pose a challenge for those looking to acquire the two-time All-Star.
