[Saba Sports News] The Mumbai Indians (MI) is experiencing a tumultuous phase ever since all-rounder Hardik Pandya joined back the franchise.
Pandya, who had started his Indan Premier League career in Mumbai Indians, was released by the franchise ahead of IPL 2022. He then went to Gujarat Titans (GT), leading the side to the title in their debut season. In 2023, GT ended as the runner-up.
MI brought back Pandya as the player himself expressed his wish to return to his original team. He replaced Rohit Sharma, the joint-most successful IPL captain, as their skipper for IPL 2024.
This captaincy shift did not go down well with the MI fans, resulting in the decrease in follower count on social media. Reportedly, a few Mumbai Indians players are also not happy with the management for how they handled the whole situation.
Recently, MI head coach Mark Boucher explained the move to appoint Pandya as the captain, terming it as a ‘cricketing decision’. He talked about Rohit as well, stating that they want the latter to play freely as a batter.
Ritika Sajdeh, Rohit’s wife, responded back to Boucher with a comment that read, “So many things wrong with this…”
In the aftermath of this, reports claim that both Rohit and Pandya have unfollowed each other on Instagram. However, it is still unconfirmed if the duo were following each other in the first place.
