[Saba Sports News] Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar recently addressed a deceptive video circulating online, where he appeared to endorse a gaming application. The video falsely claimed Tendulkar was promoting the app for its ease in making money, even alleging his daughter’s involvement for financial benefits. Tendulkar promptly refuted these claims on social media, highlighting the video as a “deep fake” and voicing his concerns about the irresponsible use of technology. The video’s realistic imitation of Tendulkar’s voice had initially shocked his fans.
In his social media statement, Tendulkar urged the public to report such misleading videos and apps, emphasizing the role of social media platforms in responding swiftly to halt the spread of misinformation and deepfakes.
“These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers. Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deepfakes,” Tendulkar tweeted.
Deepfakes, a blend of AI and fake content, are increasingly common in the digital era. They are capable of creating highly realistic videos or audio clips, posing severe ethical challenges by depicting individuals in scenarios or saying things they never did. The rise of deepfakes threatens personal reputations, information integrity, and even democratic institutions, with potential implications ranging from personal attacks to political destabilization.
Despite legislative and technological efforts to combat them, the rapid advancement and easy access to deepfake technology make it a persistent challenge to detect and regulate.
