[Saba Sports News] Former India cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath was left disappointed with Rohit Sharma’s leadership in the first Test of the ongoing series versus South Africa.
What is being considered as their final frontier will remain one for India as they lost the opening Test of the two-match series by an innings and 32 runs in South Africa on Thursday.
Badrinath seemed miffed with how Rohit led the side, calling for Virat Kohli’s reappointment as the India Test captain.
The India international even questioned Rohit’s place in the Test team, talking about his batting credentials outside India despite the fact that the 36-year-old has scored a century in England and the West Indies as an opener.
“Kohli is an exceptional Test captain with over 5000 runs, 40 wins, and 17 losses in 68 Tests. He led the team to a remarkable victory in the Australia series and has the fourth-most wins as Test captain,” Badrinath said as quoted on his YouTube channel
“Why isn’t Virat Kohli the Test team captain? He’s a better Test batter than Rohit. Why is a weaker player leading instead of him? Although Rohit Sharma has been in and out, he’s a big player and has scored runs everywhere. But he hasn’t proven himself as an opener outside India. So, why is he there?” he added.
With series on the line, India have headed to Cape Town, where they will play the second Test against the Proteas, starting January 3.
