[Saba Sports News] Just before the Europa League match between
English Premier League team Villa and Polish Ekstraklasa team Warsaw Legia, a surprising
incident occurred. Warsaw Legia fans clashed with British police, and the
cause of the clash was the local authorities’ decision to reduce the number of
away fan tickets from 2,000 to 1,000. This decision was made due to previous
violent behavior by Polish fans in the UK. In 2021, there was a major clash
between Warsaw and Leicester City, which led to this reduction in ticket
allocation. This decision sparked strong dissatisfaction among Warsaw fans, and
ultimately, a large-scale conflict erupted between the two sides.
During the clash, several British police
officers were injured, with one officer being hit by projectiles thrown by
Warsaw Legia fans and requiring
hospitalization. Dozens of Warsaw fans were arrested as a result. As the away team,
Warsaw immediately expressed their discontent, stating that Villa, as the host,
should take responsibility for the conflict as the reduction in ticket
allocation was the catalyst. The host’s decision to reduce the tickets at the
last minute was deemed inappropriate, and it was inevitable that it would lead
to an outbreak. UEFA has intervened and launched an investigation, and it is
expected that there will be disciplinary announcements in the future.
