[Saba Sports New] Bangladesh can breathe a sigh of relief as star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to play their opening match in the ODI World Cup against Afghanistan on October 7 as confirmed by Najmul Hossain Shanto, the stand-in captain for the warm-up match against England. Speculation had arisen around Shakib’s availability after he sustained a foot injury during a football session in the lead-up to Bangladesh’s warm-up game against Sri Lanka on September 29. Consequently, Shakib opted out of that match, where Bangladesh secured victory with Mehidy Hasan Miraz leading the charge.
Shakib Al Hasan is “100% fine” and “will be available” for Bangladesh’s first match of the ODI World Cup against Afghanistan on October 7 in Dharamsala, Shanto was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
