[Saba Sports News] Severe weather conditions disrupted major cricket events in the UAE this Saturday, leading to the abandonment of the second ODI between Afghanistan and Ireland in Sharjah and the postponement of the ICC ODI World Cup League 2 match between UAE and Scotland.
The latter match was rescheduled following a government directive in Dubai, highlighting the widespread impact of the adverse weather, which included heavy rainfalls, prompting widespread precautions including flight cancellations and transport suspensions.
Afghanistan, having secured a 35-run win in the series opener, retained their 1-0 lead as the subsequent game was called off due to relentless rain, putting the spotlight on the upcoming final match of the series on March 12, with hopes for more favorable weather. The Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed the cancellation after extensive consultations, underscoring the challenging conditions faced by all involved.
This interruption comes despite Afghanistan’s strong performance in the first ODI, where they extended their winning streak against Ireland, highlighted by Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s century that set up their victory. Although Ireland showed resilience, particularly through Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker, their efforts fell short, making the upcoming series finale a much-anticipated encounter, with both teams eager to compete under clearer skies.
