[Saba Sports News] The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and selectors are reportedly not keen on picking Virat Kohli for the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled in the Caribbean and the USA in June.
While the BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed Rohit Sharma as India’s T20I captain, he chose to maintain silence when asked about Kohli’s place in the team for the upcoming World Cup.
As reported by The Telegraph, Kohli can only fit into the squad for the biennial event if he enjoys a great IPL 2024.
Moreover, it is also understood that the buck stops at chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who is likely to play the role of the main decision-maker in Kohli’s selection.
The Telegraph report added that Agarkar had a word with Kohli earlier this year on the change he needs to bring in his approach while batting in T20Is to suit the modern-day requirements. However, the changed batting style did not augur well for Kohli as he failed to leave a mark in the Afghanistan series.
As far as the wicket-keeping is concerned, KL Rahul is still the frontrunner. However, his fitness remains a worry. Dhruv Jurel and Jitesh follow him in the pecking order.
