[Saba Sports News] The Indian women’s cricket team, after a break, is set to face England in a three-match T20 series at the Wankhede Stadium, starting Wednesday.
This series marks a significant step in India’s preparation for the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, scheduled nine months from now. India’s recent cricket action includes a T20I series win over Bangladesh, a tied ODI series, and an Asian Games gold medal.
Amol Muzumdar, the new head coach, aims to bring consistency and peak performance in major events. He emphasizes fielding, fitness, and a fearless cricket approach. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, includes fresh talents like Shreyanka Patil, Saika Ishaque, Titas Sadhu, and Mannat Kashyap, who have shown promising performances in recent tournaments.
“It’s been great so far, about 15 days,” he said. “We had a small camp at the National Cricket Academy and even played a four-day game. It’s been fantastic to be with the team and I’m really looking forward to the season. We’re building towards next year’s T20 World Cup and every game has importance. The ones against England and Australia will count a lot.”
“The young generation is coming through,” he added. “The India A series was well fought. The performances have been rewarded by the selectors. All the young players are looking forward to getting opportunities and I’m sure they’ll deliver. They have a terrific mindset and the energy and intensity that we’ll need on the ground.”
England’s captain Heather Knight looks forward to the challenge against India, highlighting the need to quickly adapt to conditions. England’s squad is strengthened by the return of top bowler Sophie Ecclestone, who is recovering from a shoulder injury. The series is crucial for both teams as they prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup and test their squads’ readiness.
