After his career was put on hold due to an automobile
accident that occurred just one day before New Year’s Day this year, Rishabh
Pant has been gradually returning to full health. Pant is currently anticipated
to return in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), having missed all of the big
cricket events this year, including the 2023 World Cup.
Pant was one of the players the Delhi Capitals
announced as being retained for the upcoming season. Pant returned to active
cricketing last month when he joined his DC colleagues for a training camp at
the Jadavpur University Salt Lake Campus pitch, despite not being included in
the Indian squads for their forthcoming full tour of South Africa.
He has now made a more comprehensive signal now by
posting a video of him working out in the gym. “Bouncing back with every rep,”
Pant said in his caption to the video on Instagram.
Pant’s return was confirmed by former India captain
Sourav Ganguly, who is DC’s team director. “He’s (Pant) good now. He will
play in the IPL next season,” Ganguly told reporters, as quoted by PTI at
the camp last month.
A few days prior to the December automobile tragedy,
Pant had made his professional cricket debut, playing for India against
Bangladesh in the second Test of the series. Ishan Kishan assumed wicketkeeping
responsibilities in T20Is in Pant’s absence, while KL Rahul took over the role
in ODIs and Tests. Rahul is now serving as the 2023 World Cup’s wicketkeeper.
Pant was a pillar of the Indian team in every version
of the game before the vehicle accident. In June of last year, he led India in
their T20I series against South Africa and was selected for the ICC Men’s Test
team of the year for 2021.
