[Saba Sports News] Sarfaraz Khan’s debut in Test cricket was cut short in an unfortunate incident when he was run out due to a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja during the first day of the third Test against England in Rajkot. In a critical moment, with Jadeja on 99 runs, he called for a risky single to notch his fourth Test century in the 82nd over.
However, upon noticing Mark Wood’s quick collection at short mid-on, Jadeja retracted the call, but it was too late for Sarfaraz. Wood’s direct hit at the non-striker’s end ended Sarfaraz’s promising debut innings prematurely, leaving spectators and teammates in disbelief, and even prompting Rohit Sharma to express his frustration in the dressing room.
Jadeja later took to Instagram to apologize to Sarfaraz, acknowledging his error and commending Sarfaraz’s performance. Despite the mishap, Sarfaraz had demonstrated his skill against the spinners, scoring a dynamic 62 off 66 balls, including nine fours and a six, and contributing to a valuable 77-run partnership with Jadeja.
Following the run-out, Jadeja reached his century with a single to deep backward square leg, albeit with a muted celebration, reflecting his regret over the incident. The day also saw a remarkable performance from captain Rohit Sharma, who scored 131 off 196 balls, joining Jadeja in a crucial 204-run partnership that helped India recover from an early setback of 33/3.
