[Saba Sports News] Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell is expected to have numerous suitors this offseason, despite having a year left on his current contract. Questions remain about Mitchell’s long-term commitment to the Cavs.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, three teams are preparing potential trade offers for Mitchell. On Wednesday’s episode of “Get Up,” Windhorst named the Lakers, the Heat, and the Nets as possible destinations.
“The Lakers know they need to improve their roster and will be hunting for a star. The Miami Heat have been star-hunting for a year now and have players that could interest Cleveland. The third team is Brooklyn—Donovan Mitchell is from the New York area,” Windhorst said.
The Houston Rockets were also mentioned as a dark horse candidate. Windhorst emphasized that Mitchell’s departure from Cleveland is not certain, but if he does request a trade, he will likely have significant control over his destination. The Cavs might not get full value for Mitchell unless he agrees to an extension with his new team.
In two seasons with the Cavaliers, Mitchell has averaged 27.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game, leading Cleveland to back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the East.
