[Saba Sports News] The New York Knicks are ready to reward Tom Thibodeau. On FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back” on Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the Knicks are planning to offer Thibodeau a long-term contract extension. Charania added that the extension could approach $10 million annually.
Since taking over as Knicks head coach in 2020, Thibodeau has excelled. He won NBA Coach of the Year in his first season after breaking the team’s nearly decade-long playoff drought. This season, he led the Knicks to a 50-win campaign and has them one win away from their first conference finals berth since 2000.
Thibodeau, 66, holds a 175-143 (.550) overall record with the Knicks and still has one year left on his current contract. However, the team may want to secure his future sooner, given his success and the strong support from his players.
