[Saba Sports News] Kyle Lowry is making a highly anticipated return to his roots, with reports indicating he’s set to join the Philadelphia 76ers, marking a homecoming for the Pennsylvania native. After negotiating a buyout with the Charlotte Hornets, Lowry is expected to sign with the Sixers once he clears waivers, as per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Lowry shared a heartfelt video montage on Instagram to mark the occasion.
The move to Philadelphia follows Lowry’s recent stint with the Charlotte Hornets, acquired in a trade that sent Terry Rozier to the Miami Heat, where Lowry has been the starting point guard for the past two and a half seasons. However, this season, the 37-year-old guard’s performance has seen a downturn, with his averages dropping to the lowest since 2009, at 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists over 37 games.
In Philadelphia, Lowry joins a team that features rising star Tyrese Maxey. He is expected to either partner with Maxey in the starting lineup under coach Nick Nurse, offering a seasoned All-Star presence following James Harden’s departure, or to contribute as a veteran point guard from the bench, especially after the Sixers traded Patrick Beverley to the Milwaukee Bucks. Lowry’s addition represents another strategic move by the 76ers, adding experience and depth to their roster as they push for contention.
