In place of England’s Mark Wood, West Indies fast
bowler Shamar Joseph has joined the Lucknow Super Giants. He’ll pay INR 3 crore
to join the Super Giants, an IPL release announced on Saturday.
Before becoming a global sensation when he claimed
seven wickets in the final innings of the second Test at the Gabba despite
suffering an injured foot, Joseph made his West Indies debut in the drawn
series against Australia, dismissing Steven Smith with his first ball in Test
cricket, in a match West Indies lost in Adelaide.
Joseph has continued his meteoric rise after his whirlwind
debut in the Australia Test series. He already has a deal with the PSL, and he
was set to turn up for the ILT20 as well, although he was not able to play that
tournament because his toe injury flared up more than what was expected.
He also found his way into the plans of the national
T20 side, with coach Daren Sammy saying that he will definitely be in his plans
for the upcoming T20 World Cup on their own turf as the 2-time champs will look
to make a statement after missing out on two consecutive ICC events in the last
2 years.
