[Saba Sports News] Just one year after winning the championship, the Denver Nuggets’ starting five might be at risk of breaking up.
Evan Sidery of Forbes reports that Nuggets guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, an unrestricted free agent this offseason, could attract offers exceeding $20 million. While Denver wants to re-sign him, their rising luxury tax bill may make it difficult. Potential suitors include Philadelphia, San Antonio, and Orlando.
Caldwell-Pope, 31, is crucial for Denver as their best perimeter defender and a reliable shooter, hitting 41.5 percent from three in his two seasons with the team. He also adds value by driving and hitting midrange shots.
Though Caldwell-Pope may be more effective as Denver’s fourth or fifth option, his priority might be securing a lucrative contract, having already won two championships. In the past, several teams have shown significant interest in him.
