[Saba Sports News] LeBron James is expected to decline his player option with the Los Angeles Lakers for next season, opening the door for other teams to pursue him as a free agent. One Eastern Conference contender consistently mentioned as a potential suitor is the Philadelphia 76ers.
Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reiterated on Sunday that the Sixers are determined to add a third star player alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, with James being one of their targets.
The Sixers have more than $60 million in salary cap space, giving them the flexibility to add a max player. However, they may need to allocate some of that money to sign Maxey to an extension.
There has been no clear indication that LeBron is considering leaving the Lakers. However, the situation could become complicated by his son Bronny entering the NBA. If LeBron prioritizes playing with Bronny, the 76ers are reportedly willing to draft the younger James to lure LeBron.
The 76ers also view another player as a perfect fit for their team but are keeping all options open.
