[Saba Sports News] Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving said Game 1 of the NBA Finals at TD Garden in Boston wasn’t as loud as he expected. Celtics fans attending Game 2 made sure to up their game.
With Boston leading by double digits early in the fourth quarter, the TD Garden crowd began chanting as Mavericks center Daniel Gafford headed to the free throw line.
“Kyrie sucks! Kyrie sucks!” chanted the fans.
Irving responded by motioning for the fans to keep it going. Celtics fans also booed Irving whenever he touched the basketball.
Irving’s comments after Game 1 had riled up Celtics fans, and TD Garden staff fueled the tension by displaying Irving’s quote on the jumbotron during the game. The Mavericks couldn’t silence the crowd in Game 2, losing 105-88 and falling into a 0-2 series hole.
Irving finished with 16 points on 7/18 shooting, 2 rebounds, and 6 assists, slightly improving from Game 1, where the 8-time All-Star scored 12 points on 6/19 shooting. He has yet to hit a three-pointer, going 0/8 through the first two games.
