[Saba Sports News] As the Cleveland Cavaliers rise in the Eastern Conference, they might look to optimize their roster by trading away some talent. On the “Wine and Gold Talk Podcast,” Chris Fedor from Cleveland.com mentioned that forward Isaac Okoro is the player most likely to be traded by the deadline, according to NBA sources. Chosen fifth overall in the 2020 draft, Okoro, 23, has been recognized for his defensive skills, even earning All-Rookie Second Team honors.
However, his offensive contribution, currently averaging 8.4 points per game, hasn’t met the team’s expectations. With Darius Garland’s return from injury leading to Okoro losing his starting position, and the Cavs’ recent performance propelling them to second in the East, Okoro’s role seems increasingly expendable.
The team’s offseason acquisition, Max Strus, offers a similar defensive capability with a more potent offensive game, and Cleveland’s bench depth with Caris LeVert and Sam Merrill further diminishes Okoro’s necessity. Given Okoro’s upcoming restricted free agency and the team’s potential to secure a valuable trade return, moving Okoro appears to be a strategic option, especially considering past interest from top Eastern rivals.
