[Saba Sports News] In early June, Malaysian badminton player Lai Pei Jing reported on social media that he had fallen victim to a phone scam, garnering significant attention from fans. Yesterday, Lai Pei Jing updated his social media to share details of how he was defrauded of all his savings. Lai explained that the methods used by the fraudsters were typical of a “job scam.” Initially, a friend introduced him to a software called “Dobevil,” which he would normally ignore. However, at that time, he was anxious about unemployment and his future post-retirement due to recent poor performances. Persuaded by friends, he impulsively tried the software, which presented itself as a cross-border e-commerce platform. Users were supposed to receive orders, purchase products from manufacturers, and deliver them to buyers, earning intermediate profits. Unfortunately, the entire operation was a scam. The fraudsters controlled all aspects of the transactions, including order amounts, customer service, and buyers. The scam escalated as the order amounts increased, and the threat of account freezing if orders were not completed on time created immense pressure. Eventually, when the order volume became unmanageable, Lai realized it was a scam.
