(sabasports report)New NBA champion Celtics Anis Karnons Porzingis will undergo surgery in the coming days and is expected to require months of recovery, the team announced. This means Porzingis will not be able to represent Latvia’s men’s basketball team in the Olympic trials.

Anis Karnons Porzingis, one of the Celtics’ Big Four, averaged 20.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, two assists and 1.9 blocks per game during the regular season. However, during the PLAYOFFS, his average dropped to 12.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks due to injuries. Still, he helped the team win the NBA championship.
Anis Karnons Porzingis has missed a total of 12 games in the playoffs this season. After being injured in G4 of the first round, he was unable to return to his best form and did not play again until G1 of the finals. However, in Finals G2, he suffered a torn ligament and a posterior tibial tendon dislocation, which ruled him out for the next two games before returning to action in Finals G5.
The surgery is a major blow, not only for Porzingis himself, but also for the Celtics’ new season. The team will need to find alternatives while he recovers to keep the team competitive.
