[Saba Sports News] In an appearance on ‘The Draymond Green Show,’ former NBA All-Star Baron Davis candidly discussed why Klay Thompson’s departure marks the end of the Warriors dynasty.
“I hate to see it because y’all were babies. It’s similar to how we feel about Kobe Bryant here in Los Angeles,” said Davis. “We watched y’all go from young men to men to superstars to legends. I wish Klay the best, I’m a Klay fan but… sh*t man the dynasty is over! I just don’t know how you kill a dynasty without letting your gunslingers ride off into the sunset.”
Davis’s blunt honesty highlighted the significance of Thompson’s exit. Despite a decline in production and a hefty luxury tax bill, Thompson still averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game on 43.2% shooting last season. His departure to the Dallas Mavericks symbolizes a crucial blow to the Warriors’ core.
Davis and Green agreed that Thompson deserved a better ending with the Warriors. His departure, after over a decade with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, leaves a significant void. The Warriors hope to remain competitive in the West with Curry, Green, Buddy Hield, and Andrew Wiggins, but losing Thompson makes it harder to reclaim their former dominance.
In a highly competitive conference with teams like the Lakers, Timberwolves, Nuggets, Mavericks, Thunder, and Suns, the Warriors can’t afford any weaknesses. Without their signature two-way shooter, standing out as a true Finals threat becomes much more challenging.
