[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, extremists have vandalized Mikel Merino and Mikel Oyarzabal by painting graffiti insulting them as Basque traitors. Despite Spain’s success in the European Championship, it hasn’t been universally embraced by the public. Unidentified extremists reportedly painted graffiti and displayed a banner today at Gernikako Arbola Square in the Basque Country, labeling Merino and Oyarzabal as traitors. The banner reads “No to Spanish team assimilation,” and these Basque extremists also claim that their national team is Euskal Selekzioa. Basque government representative Garmendia condemned the graffiti on social media, stating that these are isolated acts by intolerant individuals who refuse to accept the reality of a diverse and inclusive Basque society. She added that the victory brought by the Spanish team should be enjoyed without prejudice. It makes one wonder how Spanish fans perceive this incident.
