[Saba Sports News] Joel Embiid has yet to win an NBA title with the Philadelphia 76ers, and he believes his supporting cast is partly to blame.
In a recent appearance on the “Check Ball Show,” Embiid took a jab at Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum. Embiid suggested that Tatum’s team is strong enough to win even when Tatum has poor shooting nights, a luxury Embiid feels he lacks in Philadelphia.
Embiid’s comment came after NBA skills coach Drew Hanlen, who works with both Embiid and Tatum, mentioned that Embiid often says he would win more if he had a “superteam” like Tatum. Embiid responded by saying the 76ers would be blown out if he went 5-for-20 from the field.
Tatum had some poor shooting performances in the playoffs, such as going 6-of-22 in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, but Boston still won. Embiid feels his past 76ers teams wouldn’t overcome similar struggles from their best player.
The 76ers have not advanced past the Eastern Conference semifinals in the last seven years. With the recent addition of Paul George, forming a Big Three with Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, some might consider the 76ers a superteam now. If Philadelphia falls short again, Embiid might need to find a new reason for their struggles.
