[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media, Julian Alvarez will not occupy a non-EU player slot for Atletico Madrid because he holds an Italian passport. The report states that Atletico Madrid currently has two non-EU players, Samuel Lino and Nahuel Molina, leaving only one slot available. The team is set to sign Conor Gallagher from England and Alvarez from Argentina. While both Argentina and post-Brexit England are considered non-EU countries, this won’t be an issue for Atletico because Gallagher can apply for an Irish passport, and Alvarez already holds an Italian passport. Previously, Jude Bellingham obtained an Irish passport after joining Real Madrid, ensuring he did not occupy a non-EU player slot. Gallagher, whose father is Irish and mother is Scottish, can follow the same path.0
