(SabaSports) Spanish newspaper Marca has reported that young midfielder Vermeeren could be on loan after Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher joined Atletico. Atletico finally confirmed Gallagher’s transfer after weeks of negotiations in a deal expected to cost the club around €42m. Atletico also brought in Julian Alvarez from Manchester City in the summer for more than double Gallagher’s fee.

Atletico Madrid’s transfer spending suggests they plan to compete for the La Liga title in 2024/25, but it also leaves them with an oversized midfield. In order to make room for new signers, Atletico are planning to send 19-year-old Belgium international Vermelen on loan. It is understood that the club feel that a season on the bench is not conducive to the youngster’s development, so the ideal solution is to send him on loan to another La Liga club in order to gain game experience.
According to previous reports, Atletico are keen to send Vermelen on loan to Valencia so that he can continue his development in the top flight and adapt to the pace of La Liga.
