[Saba Sports News] Damian Lillard’s first season with the Milwaukee Bucks didn’t go as planned, leading some to question if his days as an elite player are over. However, Lillard is determined to prove his critics wrong.
In an interview with Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Lillard defended his performance, stating there’s no reason to think he’s past his prime. “I’m not a player that’s breaking down,” Lillard said, via Dana Gauruder of Hoops Rumors. “I live a clean, healthy life, so I can still do the same things I did two or three years ago.”
Lillard acknowledged that injuries, the transition from Portland to Milwaukee, and a divorce took a toll on him. However, he’s comfortable with the Bucks being under the radar, believing they’ll surprise their doubters.
Despite dealing with injuries, Lillard averaged 24.3 points and 7.0 assists per game in 73 appearances alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. At 34, Lillard is optimistic about a strong comeback, with coach Doc Rivers suggesting a much-improved offseason ahead.
