[Saba Sports News] Luka Doncic’s former teammate, Grant Williams, struck gold when he decided to start his basketball card collection. On Friday, Williams made headlines in the sports card community by pulling one of the most valuable Doncic rookie cards available.
Williams, a former Dallas Mavericks forward, purchased a box of 2018-19 Panini National Treasures for $10,500—a set known as the most valuable for modern-day cards. The biggest draw from that set is Doncic, whose rookie patch autographs (RPA) can easily sell for six-figure sums.
At a convention, Williams shared the story of pulling a Doncic RPA numbered to 10, a card valued at least $100,000. Williams claimed he received offers as high as $500,000 but is holding off, hoping to give Doncic the “right of first refusal,” believing the star might pay up to a million dollars for it.
Typically, those who open a 10-card box of National Treasures are lucky to break even, but Williams had extraordinary luck.
Ironically, Williams pulled this card after reportedly being traded to the Charlotte Hornets because the Mavericks were “fed up” with his constant chatter.
