(SabaSports) Tagessport reports that Joao Cancelo would have to agree to a pay cut if he wants to return to Barcelona. Barcelona are not currently willing to cover the full salary of Cancello, nor are they willing to pay the loan fee. Cancello is one of Barcelona’s main targets before the summer transfer window closes and Barcelona are dealing with the matter through the player’s agent Jorge Mendes.

Reports say Barcelona and City are discussing a loan deal that would include a non-mandatory buyout clause. Although City do not intend to keep Cancello, the player will need to make some sacrifices to return to the Nou Camp. Barcelona, who are already close to the cap on salary space this season, cannot afford to cover the full amount of Cancello’s salary, while City are unwilling to share the cost. If Cancello wishes to return to Barcelona, he will have to accept a pay cut, similar to the decision he made last summer. Barcelona are also reluctant to pay loan fees, as they did last season, which is at the heart of the current negotiations.
It is understood that Cancello’s annual salary, including fixed and variable parts, is up to 14 million euros, and Barcelona want to pay less. Despite Cancello’s decline last season, Barcelona still want him to become their main right back because he is still one of the best players in the position.
