[Saba Sports News] Patrick Beverley shared a hot take about rising star Victor Wembanyama on a recent episode of the “Pat Bev Pod.” When discussing his top five centers, Beverley named Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, Ivica Zubac, Anthony Davis, and Bam Adebayo. He placed Jokic at the top, followed by Embiid, and included his friend Zubac in the mix, saying, “Zubac is for sure top five.”
Co-host Adam Ferrone was surprised Wembanyama didn’t make the list, especially with Zubac included. Beverley explained that Wembanyama isn’t a center, calling him a “positionless” player.
He praised the Spurs star, predicting that Wembanyama could be the best player in the NBA next year, saying, “Just because you’re 7’4″ doesn’t make you a center. He’s everything.”
Although Wembanyama is listed as a center, his versatile skill set goes beyond traditional center duties. Throughout his rookie season, he wowed fans with his agility, ball-handling, and playmaking ability, uncommon for someone his size.
His defense is also exceptional, with the ability to block shots and steal the ball, while on offense, he can drive to the basket or pull up for jumpers.
Beverley’s bold claim that Wembanyama could be the NBA’s next big star isn’t far off, though it may take time before the basketball world fully acknowledges him as the best. The Spurs will need to build a strong team around him to unlock his full potential.
