[Saba Sports News] Former NBA head coach Earl Watson is returning to college basketball. NBA reporter Chris Haynes announced that Watson is joining the University of San Diego’s men’s basketball coaching staff, reuniting with his former college coach, Steve Lavin, who leads the program.
Watson, 45, played under Lavin at UCLA from 1997-2001 before embarking on a 13-season NBA career as a backup point guard.
After retiring, Watson transitioned to coaching, briefly serving as the Phoenix Suns’ head coach from 2016-17. Following that stint, Watson worked as an assistant with the Toronto Raptors (2021-23) and now returns to the NCAA as an assistant at San Diego.
