[Saba Sports News] In the opening match of the five-game Test series between India and England at Hyderabad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic opener, showcased his aggressive batting prowess but narrowly missed out on a well-deserved century by just 20 runs.
The contest commenced with England being bowled out for 246 runs in their first innings. Jaiswal seized the opportunity to display his attacking intent from the outset, showcasing positivity and aggression on the first day. Ending the day unbeaten with a score of 76, he set a spirited tone for India’s innings.
However, on the second day, despite starting with a boundary, Jaiswal fell victim to England’s part-time spinner Joe Root’s guile, departing after scoring 80 runs. His innings boasted a remarkable strike rate of 108.11, marked by 10 fours and three towering sixes.
Addressing the media in a post-match press conference, Jaiswal expressed contentment with his performance, emphasizing his commitment to his process and learning from every outing.
“Yes, it would have been amazing if I scored a hundred but I think what brought me here was my process and thinking. I was trying to do my best and sometimes it (playing aggressive cricket) can work well, sometimes it won’t,” said Jaiswal as quoted.
Reflecting on his approach against the England spinners, Jaiswal clarified that his intent was not a premeditated tactic but rather a response to the ball’s merit, aiming to execute positive strokes. He acknowledged the volatility of aggressive cricket, admitting the possibility of errors but emphasizing the importance of learning from them.
“I can commit a mistake and get out but I am trying to make sure that I learn from my mistakes. I don’t think it was any tactic (attacking England spinners early on Thursday evening), as I was just thinking to play well against certain balls, play some positive shots,” he added.
Proudly representing India in his maiden Test on home soil, Jaiswal highlighted the honor and privilege he felt donning the national colors. Contrasting the experiences of playing in the West Indies and South Africa, he expressed his enjoyment of diverse cricketing environments while underscoring the significance of representing his country.
“This is my first Test match in India and I was thinking of contributing and doing well for my team. When I was playing in the West Indies and South Africa, it was quite different and even the environment was different. But I was really enjoying all the places, and it is always a proud moment and honour whenever I go and play for my country,” Jaiswal concluded.
