[Saba Sports News] The Toronto Raptors announced on Friday that they will retire Vince Carter’s No. 15 jersey next season, and the news left Carter visibly emotional.
Raptors president Masai Ujiri shared the news during a court dedication in Toronto, a project Carter’s charity had helped refurbish. Overcome with emotion, Carter had to step away to gather himself. Even though he may have known the announcement was coming, it was still overwhelming for the NBA legend.
Carter, who spent his first six-plus seasons with the Raptors, became a superstar during his time in Toronto. Though he was traded to New Jersey in December 2004, his time with the Raptors remains the most memorable part of his career.
While another team will also retire Carter’s number next year, this Raptors announcement seems to carry the most significance for him.
