[Saba Sports News] The New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly agreed to a blockbuster trade involving two All-Stars.
The Knicks will acquire big man Karl-Anthony Towns from the Timberwolves, according to Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
In exchange, Minnesota will receive Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a first-round pick. The final details of the trade are still being worked out due to NBA salary cap rules, likely involving a third team to facilitate the deal.
This move comes after the Knicks recently traded for Mikal Bridges and fills a gap at center after losing Isaiah Hartenstein to free agency. Towns, a four-time All-Star, averaged 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists last season and will provide a scoring boost alongside Jalen Brunson.
For the Timberwolves, the trade offers salary cap relief as Towns begins his four-year, $224 million contract extension. Randle, a three-time All-Star, will replace some of Towns’ production at a lower cost, while DiVincenzo, coming off a career year, departs after bolstering the Knicks’ Villanova connection.
