[Saba Sports News] The 2024-25 season marks a new era for the Golden State Warriors, as Klay Thompson’s departure after 13 seasons leaves a significant gap at shooting guard.
To fill Thompson’s role, the Warriors have added De’Anthony Melton and Buddy Hield, and they also have a promising in-house option in Brandin Podziemski.
Though head coach Steve Kerr has yet to name a starter alongside Stephen Curry, Victor Oladipo recently weighed in on ESPN, clearly favoring Melton for the role.
“All three players are great, but I’d go with De’Anthony Melton next to Steph,” Oladipo said. “He’s shot around 38 percent from three in his career, and he can guard top players, which eases the pressure on Steph.”
Oladipo highlighted Melton’s quick release, defensive skills, and hustle plays during a recent preseason game, making a strong case for his fit as a two-way asset in the Warriors’ backcourt.
While Hield offers elite shooting to pair with Curry, and Podziemski provides playmaking potential, Melton’s defensive prowess could give the Warriors better balance.
As preseason and training camp progress, the competition remains open, but each option brings a unique skillset to the Warriors’ lineup.
